Ensuring SAP Security on Mobile Devices Means Tough Encryption, Planning

searchsap.techtarget.com, August 12, 2010 (Online)

Author Courtney Bjorlin discusses the difficulty of making mobile devices secure enough to use for enterprises. According to analysts, the biggest security threat when mobilizing SAP applications is the risk of an employee losing the device and exposing the organization to possible customer data breaches. Most devices are enabled with remote wipe capabilities however and thus external recall of data can be prevented. Nevertheless, companies have to adhere to certain standards to make mobile devices as safe as possible: First, to reduce as much as possible the spectrum of people or systems that can connect with the systems. Second, they have to secure the SAP system itself and ensure that the mobile application does not offer too many vulnerable features. Plus they are encouraged to encrypt the data. Above all, after every layer has been secured, it is important to make sure that the whole solution is secure enough by ensuring that when the components are combined together, no new threats are created.
