SAP Honors Quality, Performance and Value of Customers’ Business Transformations

SAP Customers Recognized for Expedient, Quality-Driven Software Implementations

WALLDORF, Germany – June 28, 2010 – SAP AG (NYSE: SAP) today announced details of customers’ software deployments honored with the EMEA SAP Quality Awards 2010, presented at the SAPPHIRE® NOW conference held in Frankfurt, Germany, May 17–19. The awards recognize customers that adhere to the highest standards of quality management in their software implementations and quickly achieve tangible business value.

Local gold winners from various countries across EMEA were shortlisted to present their projects to an expert judging panel made up of SAP partners, industry experts and former SAP Quality Awards winners. All of the finalists demonstrated excellent project management and execution, rapid time to value and the ability to effectively address the requirements of the business while minimizing complexity. Each of the entries highlighted action plans that were supported by senior management and included built-in quality measures and key performance indicators (KPIs).

With a 50 percent increase in nominations since 2008, the panel faced a difficult decision selecting only three winners from the impressive shortlist of customers that had won gold in their local competition. Gold winners for the EMEA region were as follows:

  • Small and Midsize Enterprise Implementation: Emirates Steel, United Arab Emirates
  • Large Enterprise Implementation: Veolia Environnement, France
  • New Business Application Implementation: Vodafone, United Kingdom

Silver winners for the EMEA region were Vetter Pharma Fertigung GmbH & Co. KG (Germany), Institut Catalá de la Salut (Spain) and Engen Petroleum LTD (South Africa). Bronze winners were Cuatrecasas Gonçalves Pereria SLP (Spain), Asda Stores LTD (United Kingdom) and SFS Services AG (Switzerland).

These customers clearly show that SAP implementations can be smooth, timely and highly impactful when quality principles are placed at their core.”

The SAP Quality Awards celebrate SAP customers that have shown a consistent commitment to quality principles as identified by SAP and the achievement of excellence within key areas of success. Key judging criteria include:

Small and Midsize Enterprise Implementation: Emirates Steel
Emirates Steel is the only integrated steel plant in the United Arab Emirates. As part of an ongoing expansion program, Emirates Steel needed to implement a solution to cover the entire scope of the company’s processes. Having selected enterprise resource planning (ERP) application SAP® ERP, all processes, including sales, distribution, controlling, human resources (HR) and financial management, were targeted in the six-month implementation to effectively align strategic aims and business user requirements. The judges commended Emirates Steel for exceptional project management capabilities, delivering a very challenging project, and commented that quality milestones and timelines had been successfully built into the overall implementation timetable.

Large Enterprise Implementation: Veolia Environnement
Veolia Environnement offers environmental services within water, waste, energy and transport. With more than 300,000 employees, comprehensive standardization of processes is vital to smooth operations. Veolia Environnement selected SAP ERP to help 25,000 end users with a range of financial processes including financial accounting, investment and asset management, procurement, cost accounting and budgetary control. Throughout the implementation, Veolia Environnement had excellent governance structures in place to manage program and change management. As a result, it achieved clear quantitative benefits across multiple areas and was able to expertly control organizational changes. The judges highlighted the excellent attention to architectural aspects, including risk mitigation, despite the project’s broad scope of business demands and software functionality.

New Business Application Implementation: Vodafone
As part of a larger internal business transformation project, Vodafone needed new technology to support finance, HR and supply chain processes. Vodafone implemented the latest version of SAP ERP, with master data management, process integration and portal. The solution also encompassed supply chain management; business intelligence; governance, risk and compliance; and eRecruiting, among other solutions. Vodafone placed a sharp focus on benefits from the start. The judging panel was impressed by the quality measures that guided the overall implementation, the fact that the measures were continuously reviewed throughout the project, and the exceptional end results produced by the implementation, including the synchronization of all of SAP systems globally.
